This package includes an early pregnancy reassurance scan plus a blood test to determine your baby’s sex, no need to wait until 20 weeks to find out who’s kicking in there!
Results are typically available within 5 working days, delivered by email. Got a gender reveal in the works? We’re happy to help, whether that’s emailing a friend to keep the secret safe, prepping the right colour confetti cannons for you to collect, or working with your big reveal plan.
You'll receive a minimum of 2 printed images, plus digital photos and video clips sent straight to your phone before you leave. No waiting.
Who it's for
You’re 8+ weeks pregnant and already dreaming about baby names and you just can’t wait to find out who’s on the way!
That’s 8 weeks from the first day of your last period. If your cycles are irregular or your dates are uncertain, we recommend waiting 4 weeks from your first positive test. Not sure if you’re quite there yet? Drop us a message, we’re happy to help.
What happens
We begin with your early pregnancy scan, just like our standalone reassurance scan, checking in on baby, confirming heartbeat and development, and giving you those all-important first glimpses.
Then we move on to the gender detection test. All of our sonographers are trained and experienced in venepuncture (that’s taking blood, usually from your arm, occasionally from your hand). We’ll talk you through it, keep things calm and comfortable, and make it as quick and painless as possible.
Before the sample is taken, you’ll be asked to read and sign a consent form allowing the lab to process your results.
Once we’re done, we’ll send your digital scan images and video straight to your phone, and you’ll leave with your printed images in hand, ready to share (or keep under wraps until your big reveal!).
Preparation
Want the best chance of getting clear, frame-worthy images and a smooth blood test experience? It’s all about the hydration. We recommend drinking up to 3 litres a day for 3–4 days before your appointment to hydrate all the tissue around baby, it really does make a difference.
On the day:
Eat and drink well, but don’t go overboard.
Empty your bladder before leaving home, then sip up to 500ml of water before the scan, no need to arrive desperate for a wee!
Being warm and well-hydrated also helps make your blood draw quicker and easier, so wrap up and drink up.
Who to bring
Partners, family, or a trusted friend are welcome, but bear in mind that early scans can be emotional, and internal scans may be needed, which are more intimate. We can screen you for modesty, of course, but choose guests who’ll support you best.
We won’t turn anyone away, but we don’t recommend bringing children to early pregnancy scans, it’s not always a straightforward experience, and your full attention matters.
On the day
On the day of the scan, eat and drink well, but do not overfill the bladder. Empty your bladder before leaving the house and then sip water up to the time of the scan (up to 500ml).
For the best venepuncture experience, making sure you have eaten beforehand and are really well hydrated (banging on about it but it really helps!) is really important. Also, keeping wrapped up warm is great too.If your appointment is between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, just head into Main Reception at Greetwell Place and our friendly receptionists will let us know you have arrived.
Outside of these hours, when the main reception is closed, please follow the road through the car park to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign and park near where you see the sandwich board ScanLinc sign (this is our private entrance). There is no access to the building prior to your appointment.
We ask you to wait in your vehicle or at a discreet distance to give the appointment their privacy, not everyone is public about their pregnancy and remember not everyone is having a happy scan.

ON THE DAY
Meet Your Team
You won’t see a different face every time you walk through the door.
ScanLinc is run by just three of us - Sam, Hannah and Megan - and between us, you’re always in safe hands.

Megan Evans
Megan is a qualified, HCPC-registered Sonographer who also works within the NHS as an Obstetric Sonographer. That dual perspective means she’s not only clinically brilliant, but always in the loop with evolving NHS practices, bringing the best of both worlds to your care.

Sam Nicholls
Sam is our Clinic Director and Advanced Practitioner Sonographer. With postgraduate training in gynaecology, fertility and early pregnancy, and over two decades of NHS experience, she brings a calm, expert presence to every scan. She’s also our CQC lead and maintains her Midwifery registration, so you can be sure your care is clinically sound, safe and current.

Hannah Sleight
Hannah is our Technical Director and a qualified Sonographer. She has a knack for turning complex tech into calm, seamless experiences, from streamlining operations to keeping us at the cutting edge with the latest imaging innovations (like our 8K scan enhancements). She makes the clinic run like clockwork.
Early Scan & Gender Detection Test
Your appointment will last 45 minutes in total. While you won’t be scanned for the full duration, this allows us plenty of time to talk through your questions, understand any concerns, explain what we’re seeing, and make sure you leave feeling informed and reassured. No rushing, no conveyor belts, just personalised care, properly paced.
