Whether you’re trying to conceive naturally or preparing for fertility treatment, this scan is all about understanding your uterine lining - the endometrium - and how it's responding in your cycle.
The scan assesses the thickness, texture, and pattern of your endometrium (aka the all-important spot for implantation), checks for polyps or fibroids, and evaluates the general health of your uterus and ovaries.
It’s often used in timing treatment, checking your response to medication, or simply gathering more information if you’re in the “what’s going on with my cycle?” phase of trying to conceive.
Who it's for
Women undergoing fertility treatment, whether here in the UK or abroad, who need a local, convenient way to get essential scan results back to their clinic. If your care provider isn’t exactly around the corner from home or work, we’re here to help fill that gap.
We also welcome women who aren’t under a fertility clinic but want to explore a potential issue with a non-diagnostic scan. If that’s you, just drop us an email first so we can make sure we’re the right fit.
What happens
Your sonographer will start by asking a few questions about your general health, any relevant medical history, particularly anything related to gynaecological health, and what your clinic needs from this scan. She’ll also explain exactly what’s going to happen, and you’ll have time to ask any questions before we get started.
You’ll be asked to empty your bladder before the scan begins.
To ensure the best possible accuracy, this scan is carried out using a vaginal probe. It’s a very common and generally pain-free procedure, most women describe it as mildly cold and a little stretchy at most.
If you’re attending alone, we’re always happy to offer a chaperone, if you know you’ll want one, it’s super helpful to let us know ahead of time. You’ll be given full privacy to undress.
During the scan, you’ll be able to see everything the sonographer sees, and she’ll explain what she’s doing throughout (if there’s a moment of quiet, we’re just focusing, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong!).
Afterwards, you’ll have time to get dressed and go over the results and any next steps. We aim to complete your report during your appointment, or at the latest, by the end of the day.
Preparation
Have any clinic emails or referral letters handy on your phone, or bring printed copies, especially if they outline specific scan requirements.
You don’t need a full bladder for this one, but hydration still matters! For the clearest possible images, try drinking up to 3 litres of water daily for 3–4 days before your scan. Well-hydrated tissue = better visibility = better results.
All of our sonographers are female, highly trained, and genuinely lovely. And no, we don’t care if you’ve shaved or not.
It’s totally fine to attend while on your period.
Partners, trusted friends, or family are welcome to come along. That said, this is an intimate, internal scan, so do think carefully about who you’d feel comfortable having with you. We can screen your intimate areas from view during the procedure, but because of the nature of the scan, we wouldn’t recommend bringing children.
On the day
No need to hold that wee - you don’t need a full bladder for this scan.
If your appointment is between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, head straight into Main Reception at Greetwell Place. The lovely front desk team will let us know you’ve arrived.
Outside those hours (evenings/weekends), take the road through the car park to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign. You’ll find our private entrance near the sandwich board with the ScanLinc sign.
Please note: there’s no access to the building before your appointment time.
We kindly ask that you wait in your vehicle or nearby at a respectful distance, this gives privacy to the person before you. Not everyone is public about their treatment, and not every scan is a happy one. We always aim to hold space with care.
