Get a clearer picture of what’s going on behind the scenes.

This combined blood test checks key hormones that play a vital role in your menstrual cycle, fertility, and overall hormonal balance. It’s especially helpful if you’re experiencing irregular periods, struggling to conceive, or simply want to understand more about your body’s hormonal rhythms.

The panel includes:

• LH (Luteinising Hormone)
• FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone)
• Prolactin
• Oestradiol (Estrogen)

Each one offers insight into a different piece of the puzzle:

Hormone What it tells you
LH Ovulation patterns, signs of PCOS, and how well your pituitary gland is functioning.
FSH Ovarian reserve, menopausal transition, and ovarian health.
Prolactin Possible reasons for missed periods or fertility challenges, including pituitary issues.
Oestradiol Estrogen levels, ovarian function, and menopause status.

This panel is often requested ahead of assisted conception or fertility treatment planning.

When to test:

• For LH, FSH, and Oestradiol: Ideally on Day 3 of your cycle (Day 1 is the first full day of bleeding).

• For Prolactin: In the morning, when fasting and feeling calm, as stress or stimulation can temporarily raise levels.

Who it's for

This test is designed for women and people assigned female at birth who want to understand more about their hormones and how they may be impacting their fertility, periods, or overall wellbeing.

You might consider this test if:

• You’re exploring fertility or IVF
This panel gives key insights into whether and when ovulation is occurring, how strong your ovarian reserve is, and whether elevated prolactin might be getting in the way.

• Your periods are irregular, absent, or unusually painful
These hormone levels can help identify whether the issue is linked to ovulation, PCOS, primary ovarian insufficiency, or something to do with pituitary function.

If you suspect PCOS as the main concern, our PCOS Profile may be more suitable as it includes a broader range of relevant markers.

What happens

When you arrive, we’ll take a few details about you and your medical history. We’ll also chat through your current situation and any specific concerns, so we can make sure you’re getting the most appropriate and helpful service.

A qualified clinician will then take a blood sample - usually from your arm, though occasionally we may use your hand if needed. We’ll always aim to make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Preparation

To make your blood test as smooth and comfortable as possible, it’s important to eat beforehand and stay well hydrated. Being warm helps too so layer up if it’s chilly out.
You’re also welcome to bring a partner, family member, or trusted friend for support.

When results are ready

If your appointment is before midday Monday to Friday, your results will usually be ready within 24 hours.
For tests taken after midday during the week, results are typically available within 36 to 48 hours.
Weekend appointments? You can expect your results by the following Tuesday.

On the day

To make your blood draw as smooth as possible, come well-hydrated and don’t skip breakfast - it really does make a difference. Staying warm helps too, so wrap up before you arrive.

If your appointment is between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, head into Main Reception at Greetwell Place. The reception team will let us know you’ve arrived.

If you’re booked outside of those hours, when reception is closed, follow the road to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign. Park near the ScanLinc sandwich board sign - that’s our private entrance. Please note there’s no access to the building before your appointment if reception is closed.

We kindly ask that you wait in your car or nearby at a respectful distance until we come to meet you. Some visitors prefer to keep their appointments private, and we like to honour that.
