A Full Blood Count (FBC) is one of the most common blood tests and offers a broad snapshot of your overall health. It helps detect things like anaemia, infections, and potential blood disorders, often before symptoms even appear.
This test looks at several components of your blood to give a full picture of how things are working:
• Red Blood Cells (RBC): These carry oxygen through your body.
• Haemoglobin (Hb): The protein in red blood cells that holds oxygen.
• Haematocrit (Hct): The percentage of your blood made up of red cells.
• White Blood Cells (WBC): Key to your immune system, showing signs of infection or inflammation.
• Platelets: Help with blood clotting and wound healing.
• MCV (Mean Cell Volume): Shows the average size of your red blood cells — helpful for identifying types of anaemia.
• MCH/MCHC: Measure how much haemoglobin is in each red blood cell.
This is a go-to test for giving your body’s story a closer look, whether you’ve got specific concerns or just want to check in on your general health.
Who it's for
A Full Blood Count is a valuable test for a wide range of people — whether you’re dealing with symptoms, monitoring a known condition, or simply keeping an eye on your overall health.
It’s particularly helpful for:
• People with symptoms of anaemia - such as tiredness, dizziness, breathlessness, or feeling unusually cold.
• Anyone showing signs of infection or inflammation - including fever, chills, sore throat, or general aches.
• Those with ongoing fatigue or unexplained weakness - an FBC can help identify if low haemoglobin or another issue is behind it.
• People attending routine health checks - especially over-50s or those managing long-term health conditions.
• Individuals with chronic illnesses - including kidney conditions, autoimmune disorders, or cancer, which can all impact blood counts.
• Those on certain medications - like chemotherapy or long-term antibiotics that may affect the bone marrow.
• People who are monitoring existing health issues - including anaemia, infections, blood disorders, or post-surgery recovery.

If you’re booked outside of those hours, when reception is closed, follow the road to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign. We kindly ask that you wait in your car or nearby at a respectful distance until we come to meet you. Some visitors prefer to keep their appointments private, and we like to honour that.
