Need a little peace of mind between appointments? This scan is here to check that everything’s ticking along just as it should be, we’ll confirm your pregnancy is progressing, check baby’s heartbeat (and have a listen if you’re 16 weeks or more), and take growth measurements.
Want to know the gender? We’ll take a peek if baby’s in the mood and you’re 15 weeks+.
This scan is for reassurance only and does not replace your NHS 20-week anomaly scan.
You’ll receive a minimum of 2 printed images, plus digital images and video sent straight to your phone before you leave, no waiting, no fuss.
Who it's for
You’re between 14 and 24 weeks pregnant, and either:
• You’ve already had your NHS dating scan (that’s the one often called the 12-week scan)
• You’re feeling in limbo - early symptoms are fading, baby movements haven’t started yet, and that 20-week scan feels miles away
• You’ve had a wobble - maybe something’s worried you and you just need to know everything’s okay in there
If you’re after reassurance, this scan is for you.
What happens
First up, your sonographer will have a quick chat to understand a bit about you, your health, any gynaecological or pregnancy history, and how this pregnancy’s been going so far. Anything you’re worried about? We want to know.
This scan is transabdominal (over the tummy), so you’ll be asked to uncover your bump and maybe shimmy your waistband down a little. A bit of warm gel goes on your lower belly (we might scan a bit higher depending how far along you are), then we gently glide the probe across to get a clear view of baby.
Our first priority? Finding and showing you that lovely little heartbeat.
You’ll be able to see the screen the whole time, and we’ll talk you through what we’re seeing (unless we go quiet, it just means we’re concentrating, not that anything’s wrong!).
Once the scan’s done and all your questions are answered, you’ll get dressed while we prep your goodies:
• Printed scan photos
• Digital images and video straight to your phone
No waiting around, just reassurance, clarity, and something special to take home.
Preparation
Want clearer images and the best chance of a smooth, successful scan? Start with hydration and we mean before the day of your appointment. Aim to drink up to 3 litres of water a day for 3–4 days leading up to your scan. It helps hydrate the tissues, which can massively improve image quality (aka better pics for you to take home!).
On the day eat and drink normally, but don’t go wild with the water. Empty your bladder before you leave home, then sip up to 500ml in the lead-up to your appointment, just enough, not bursting.
If you’re very early in pregnancy (under 8 weeks), there’s a good chance we’ll need to do an internal scan to get a clear view. All of our sonographers are female and highly experienced. And no, we don’t care if you’ve shaved. We’re here for your well-being, not your grooming habits.
Not sure who to bring? You’re absolutely welcome to bring a partner, trusted friend or family member. Just bear in mind this can be an emotional appointment, and internal scans are, by nature, more intimate. We can screen your lower body from view during the scan, but choose someone you’re comfortable with.
Partners/family/trusted friends and well-behaved children welcome. We'd recommend really small people come in buggies with plenty of snacks and distractions as our clinic isn't a safe space for them to roam around.
On the day
Try to avoid emptying your bladder for about an hour before your scan, you don’t need to be bursting, but a comfortably full bladder can help give us clearer images.
Top tip: Hydrating well in the days beforehand makes a bigger difference than chugging water right before!
Coming between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday?
Head straight to Main Reception at Greetwell Place, our lovely receptionists will let us know you’ve arrived.
Outside those hours (evenings, weekends, or bank holidays):
Follow the road through the car park to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign, and park near the ScanLinc sandwich board, that’s our private entrance.
Please note: there’s no access to the building before your appointment time.
We kindly ask that you wait in your car or keep a respectful distance, not everyone is shouting their news from the rooftops, and not every scan is a joyful one. Let’s give each other the space and privacy we’d all want.

ON THE DAY
Meet Your Team
You won’t see a different face every time you walk through the door.
ScanLinc is run by just three of us - Sam, Hannah and Megan - and between us, you’re always in safe hands.

Megan Evans
Megan is a qualified, HCPC-registered Sonographer who also works within the NHS as an Obstetric Sonographer. That dual perspective means she’s not only clinically brilliant, but always in the loop with evolving NHS practices, bringing the best of both worlds to your care.

Sam Nicholls
Sam is our Clinic Director and Advanced Practitioner Sonographer. With postgraduate training in gynaecology, fertility and early pregnancy, and over two decades of NHS experience, she brings a calm, expert presence to every scan. She’s also our CQC lead and maintains her Midwifery registration, so you can be sure your care is clinically sound, safe and current.

Hannah Sleight
Hannah is our Technical Director and a qualified Sonographer. She has a knack for turning complex tech into calm, seamless experiences, from streamlining operations to keeping us at the cutting edge with the latest imaging innovations (like our 8K scan enhancements). She makes the clinic run like clockwork.
Second trimester reassurance scan
45 minutes total. You won’t be on the couch the whole time, but this gives us plenty of space to hear your concerns, explain everything clearly, and make sure you leave feeling fully informed and reassured.
