Your pregnancy is well into its final act, but that doesn’t mean the questions stop. This scan offers peace of mind in the third trimester, with a check on baby’s heartbeat, measurements to track growth, and the reassurance of seeing them on screen again.
Gender confirmation available (if baby’s playing ball).
Includes a minimum of 2 printed images, plus digital photos and video, sent to your phone before you even leave.
Important note: If you’re experiencing reduced movements, please contact your local antenatal assessment unit before booking with us. While we’re always happy to see you, movement concerns should be assessed by your NHS maternity team first.
Our measurements are non-diagnostic and will not be used by NHS teams for clinical decision-making, but they can still offer reassurance and clarity as you approach the final weeks.
Who it's for
You're between 24–34 weeks pregnant, you've had your NHS anomaly scan (aka the 20-week scan), and you're not scheduled for any more routine checks, but you'd love a little reassurance before the big day.
Perfect if you're not interested in 3D/4D scans, but still want to check in, see your baby, and know everything is progressing as it should.
What happens
We’ll start with a chat, your sonographer will ask about your general health, any past pregnancies or gynaecological issues, and how things are going with this one. Any concerns, symptoms or questions? We want to hear it all.
This scan is done through your tummy (transabdominal), so we’ll ask you to lift your top and shimmy your waistband down just enough to give us a good view. A bit of warm ultrasound gel goes on your bump, and we’ll gently glide the probe across your abdomen. It shouldn’t be uncomfortable, just let us know if anything feels tender.
The very first thing we’ll do is find and show you your baby’s heartbeat. You’ll be able to see what we see the whole way through. If we go quiet, don’t worry, we’re just focusing.
We’ll take measurements to check your baby’s growth, look at position, and reassure you that things are on track. Once we’re finished, you’ll have time to get dressed, ask questions, and chat through anything that’s come up.
You’ll leave with at least 2 printed images and your digital scan photos and videos sent directly to your phone, no waiting around.
Preparation
Want clearer images and the best chance of a smooth, successful scan? Start with hydration and we mean before the day of your appointment. Aim to drink up to 3 litres of water a day for 3–4 days leading up to your scan. It helps hydrate the tissues, which can massively improve image quality (aka better pics for you to take home!).
On the day eat and drink normally, but don’t go wild with the water. Empty your bladder before you leave home, then sip up to 500ml in the lead-up to your appointment, just enough, not bursting.
If you’re very early in pregnancy (under 8 weeks), there’s a good chance we’ll need to do an internal scan to get a clear view. All of our sonographers are female and highly experienced. And no, we don’t care if you’ve shaved. We’re here for your well-being, not your grooming habits.
Not sure who to bring? You’re absolutely welcome to bring a partner, trusted friend or family member. Just bear in mind this can be an emotional appointment, and internal scans are, by nature, more intimate. We can screen your lower body from view during the scan, but choose someone you’re comfortable with.
Partners/family/trusted friends and well-behaved children welcome. We'd recommend really small people come in buggies with plenty of snacks and distractions as our clinic isn't a safe space for them to roam around.
On the day
Try to avoid emptying your bladder for about an hour before your scan, you don’t need to be bursting, but a comfortably full bladder can help give us clearer images.
Top tip: Hydrating well in the days beforehand makes a bigger difference than chugging water right before!
Coming between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday?
Head straight to Main Reception at Greetwell Place, our lovely receptionists will let us know you’ve arrived.
Outside those hours (evenings, weekends, or bank holidays):
Follow the road through the car park to the right of the building, past the 5mph sign, and park near the ScanLinc sandwich board, that’s our private entrance.
Please note: there’s no access to the building before your appointment time.
We kindly ask that you wait in your car or keep a respectful distance, not everyone is shouting their news from the rooftops, and not every scan is a joyful one. Let’s give each other the space and privacy we’d all want.

ON THE DAY
Meet Your Team
You won’t see a different face every time you walk through the door.
ScanLinc is run by just three of us - Sam, Hannah and Megan - and between us, you’re always in safe hands.

Megan Evans
Megan is a qualified, HCPC-registered Sonographer who also works within the NHS as an Obstetric Sonographer. That dual perspective means she’s not only clinically brilliant, but always in the loop with evolving NHS practices, bringing the best of both worlds to your care.

Hannah Sleight
Hannah is our Technical Director and a qualified Sonographer. She has a knack for turning complex tech into calm, seamless experiences, from streamlining operations to keeping us at the cutting edge with the latest imaging innovations (like our 8K scan enhancements). She makes the clinic run like clockwork.
Third trimester reassurance
45 minutes total. You won’t be on the couch the whole time, but this gives us plenty of space to hear your concerns, explain everything clearly, and make sure you leave feeling fully informed and reassured.
